Things That Make Your Glasses Dirty That You Don't Realize

Things That Make Your Glasses Dirty That You Don't Realize

You clean your glasses… and somehow, they still look dirty.

You wipe them again.

And again.

And somehow there's still a smudge staring right back at you.

So what's going on?

There are actually a lot of things that get onto your lenses throughout the day that you may not even realize.

Your Skin

Your face naturally produces oils, and those oils can transfer onto your lenses every time you touch or adjust your glasses.

Even if your hands look clean, there's still oil on your fingertips.

Makeup and Skincare

Foundation, concealer, moisturizer, sunscreen, and other skincare products can easily end up on your lenses, especially around the edges.

And some of these products are much harder to remove than a simple fingerprint.

Your Hair

Hair products, dry shampoo, oils, sprays, and other products can settle onto your lenses without you noticing.

If you use hairspray, for example, you may be getting a fine mist on your glasses every time you spray your hair.

Your Eyelashes

Yes, your eyelashes can contribute too.

Every time you blink, tiny particles of oil and debris can make their way onto your lenses. If your lashes touch your lenses, you may notice an especially stubborn buildup in that area.

Your Hands

This one is obvious, but we do it constantly.

We push our glasses up.

We adjust them.

We take them off.

We put them back on.

Every time you touch your lenses, you're potentially transferring oil and dirt onto them.

Your Environment

Dust, cooking grease, pollen, and other particles in the air can settle on your lenses throughout the day.

So Why Can They Be So Hard to Clean?

Sometimes it's not just dirt.

A combination of oil, makeup, skincare products, and environmental debris can create a film that doesn't come off easily with a quick wipe.

And if you're using a dry cloth to wipe your lenses, you may simply be moving that film around.

That's why I recommend using a lens cleaner specifically made for eyeglasses along with a clean microfiber cloth.
